ENDURO TEAM 2024: 150 Mountainbike-Teams feiern Trails und internationale Community
From 5 to 7 September 2024, the international enduro mountain bike scene met for the eighth time in Davos Klosters in Graubünden for MONDRAKER ENDURO TEAM, a race for teams with a maximum fun factor. With good weather and impressive mountain panoramas, over 400 participants in almost 150 teams enjoyed the alpine racing ad-venture on the first-class trails around the destination of Davos Klosters and cultivated the exceptional camaraderie of the international mountain bike community. The Himalayan Enduro Team with riders from Nepal and Bhutan, which was accompanied by trials star Tom Oehler, was particularly well received.
First-class trails and mountain panoramas at their best – the international field of participants was once again impressed by the race and the Davos Klosters region. The three riders from Nepal and Bhutan, who are in Switzerland for an international exchange through the bike tour operators Globetrotter and Abenteuerreisen, particularly enjoyed the event: In addition to the trails and mountain railway network, they were impressed a lot by the solidarity within the mountain bike community. “This trip is an amazing opportunity for us. We saw a lot during these days and are taking countless ideas home”, says Mangal Lama from Nepal. The whole story is available online. The Himalayan Enduro Team was accompanied by trials star Tom Oehler, who was riding his first ever enduro race: “Riding in a team was great fun and thanks to MONDRAKER ENDURO TEAM I was even able to get to know new trails in the region”, says the well-known Davos Klosters ambassador. The team was accompanied in the video of day 2 .
Team Terpstra out through crash
The Dutch cross-country pro rider, this year's Cape Epic winner, Olympian and current Vice World Champion Anne Terpstra unfortunately had to give up the race on the first day: After an actually harmless crash, her brother and team-mate Rien Terpstra could no longer hold the handlebars properly due to pain in his hand. Nevertheless, Anne Terpstra was thrilled: “It's so great here! Something completely different from the Cross Country World Cup. Fantastic that I can experience this together with my brother in a team. This event has already stolen my heart! I hope this won't be the last time we're here!”. More about Team Terpstra online as well as in video of day 2..
Like an annual family reunion
More than 400 participants from 18 nations, divided into almost 150 teams, rode 14 stages, measured sections, over the three days on their bikes. On the transfer stages, often supported by mountain railways, the time was stopped and the riders enjoyed the impressive alpine scenery and chatted with bikers from other countries. Many have known and seen each other here for years: “It's almost like an annual family reunion”, says organizer Britta Wild from the Bike Academy Davos. “The extremely loyal field of participants and the many returnees are the best compliment for us.”
Several titles defended
Even though it is a fun event, it was an exciting race this time too. In the men's category, Luca Jenni and Mike Schuler, Team Specialized / Giant Collective, defended their title with a time of 1h 09min 36sec. Second place went to the team We ride for Jay with Claudio Negro and Silvan Marfurt, almost 4 minutes behind but 2 minutes ahead of the Lucerne Stocker Brothers with Jan and Mika Stocker in 3rd place.
Unfortunately, the women’s category was very small. Central Swiss riders Melanie Zehnder and Andrea Richiger defended their 1st place as Team Gratis Ürnerpastetä with a time of 1h 34min 29sec. The tough battle for second place was ultimately won by the Slovenians Zala Likar and Ana Brancelj, team Shred Sirens, ahead of team Demo Women Grindelwald with Katrin Stadler and Annika Hirsch.
The head-to-head race in the mixed category was ultimately won by the VCBellinzona Enduro Team with Claudia Grassi and Loris Pellencini, just 50 seconds ahead of Team Mr & Mrs Black with Carina Cappellari, former downhill pro rider and current Swiss national coach for gravity disciplines, and Swiss Olympic bike mechanic Gavin Black. Third place went to Team Schmäxx with Davos locals Martina Gross and Chris Visscher.
In the 77+ category, many of the previous top teams were once again at the start and delivered an exciting race. This time, victory went to the Central Swiss team ä Ürner und ä Rissäckler with Philipp Buchs and Iwan Arnold, ahead of Team one80-shop.ch with Alois von Wurstemberger and Gian Malär. Third place went to the Tanner Twins with Markus and Jürg Tanner.
In the FUN TEAMS category, which has now been organized for the fifth time, team Cabrones again took the victory, ahead of team Mountain Mavericks from Surselva and the Pulp Traction team from Davos.
Despite the sometimes tough fights on the track, everyone agrees: winning is secondary at this fun team event – because the main prize simply is a big grin on everyone’s face. And this time, too, they all got it.
Volunteers – the soul of the event
Once again it was a fantastic mountain bike festival! The biggest thanks go to the 60 volunteers, without whom the race could not be held. “They are the soul of our event and well known in the community”, explains race director Michi Wild from the Bike Academy Davos. “We are a very well-coordinated team! Many of them take a week's holiday every year to volunteer here. That’s far beyond of what we can expect”, he says. “The mountain railways Davos Klosters Mountains, who actually make the event possible thanks to their dense transport network, have also supported us great again!”
